MIECZYSŁAW ASŁANOWICZ REGIONAL MUSEUM IN SIEDLCE

The Museum is located in the town hall. The historical building is an architectural landmark of the city. Founded by Aleksandra Oginska, the 18th-century building is commonly called “Jack,” in honour of the duchess’s butler, who, according to the legend, posed for a sculpture of Atlas, crowning the clock tower. The architecture of the Town Hall combines the styles from late Baroque, through Rococo, to classicism. Since the building was constructed, there have been at least four statues of Atlas on the tower. The current one was made in the 1960s. The Museum collects and makes available cultural artifacts from the fields of art, ethnography, archive photography, archaeology and history. What is more, the building hosts museum lessons for schools, concerts, conferences, and scientific sessions.
